MEET THE FOUNDERS
Dr. Melvin Hayden, Jr. and Dr. Rashada Hayden are veteran educators and educational leaders with more than 50 years of combined experience across traditional, alternative, and nontraditional learning environments. Their work has focused on supporting students who need more than a standard classroom approach, including students who benefit from trauma-responsive support, emotional wellness practices, personalized instruction, and strong relationships.
Their decision to create VLA is both professional and personal. As educators, they have seen students overlooked by systems that were never designed around their needs. As parents, they understand the importance of educational choice and finding the right fit. Together, they created Visionary Leadership Academy to be a place where healing, learning, confidence, and belonging work together.

LEARNING DESIGNED AROUND THE LEARNER
At VLA, personalization goes beyond assigning different work. We use student data, observation, learning profiles, teacher-guided instruction, and AI-supported planning to design learning experiences around how each student learns best.
Technology helps us personalize learning, but meaningful relationships and excellent teaching remain at the center of everything we do.
